Finding our passion and following in the footsteps of what we love is something we all dream of doing. I am an IT Engineer, the cliche associated with "our kind" is we have very little interest in fashion and very seriously frustrated people on planet. Sounds very lame, but not all of it is true. All I want to say is, there is no demarcation, it doesn't matter what field you come for, if you have a passion, then pursue it. Life is too short to wonder. My dream was to do something in the field of fashion though I don't have any formal degree. What I know about fashion is self-taught through internet, international fashion blogs, watching shows. Journey is no bed of roses, I faced a lot of criticism, lack of support during the initial days I started the blog. I come from a stereotypical South Indian family who thinks fashion field is not for us. I did not listen to anyone and pursued my ambition, my dream and my passion. All I am trying to say is if you have a dream pursue it. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks. It is your life and make choices best for you.

The reason I told this long story is Nikita Varma came from a business background, but her passion for fashion drove her from corporate world to New York City to pursue fashion at the prestigious Parsons School of Design. Besides her formal training at Parsons. She has apprenticed and worked with designers and brands like Marc Jacobs, Diane Von Furstenberg, Luca Luca, Vera Wang, Bulgari and Donna Ricco.

Nikita branched out as an Independent designer, and launched her eponymous label ‘NIKITTA’, a high-end ready-to-wear contemporary designer label and ‘NIKITTA PrĂȘt’ a diffusion line, in the year 2011. Her recent collection was showcased at the Bangalore Fashion Week, 2012.

Every NIKITTA creation embodies fashion and art in a harmonious combination and balance that brings forth modern and innovative designs that express the designer's sensibilities in her own unique language. The label emphasizes perfect fit and sizing, impeccable construction and finish of garments. It also experiments with different and new fabrications, construction techniques, draping and pattern constructions. The label strives to study different body shapes and bring forth designs that enhance the beauty and confidence of the wearer. NIKITTA endeavors to exemplify affordable luxury at its best.

I caught up with Nikita and she agreed to do an exclusive interview for Stilettos Diary. This is what she had to say.

1. From where do you get your inspiration, can you share how you interpret them into your lovely design?

For me designing is a natural process of expressing my creativity and what I am feeling at the moment. Inspirations appear in various forms like a visual or a thought, mood or an idea. Having said that, when designing I do keep in mind the season or the occasion I am designing for and my collections emerge from a combination of inspirations and the seasonal requirements in terms of the right fabrications, colors and cuts.

2. When you create something, what goes through your mind?

When designing, I am conscious that every design I create reflects my design sensibilities andaesthetics truly. I also create keeping in mind that my designs are not only unique in style but they are also wearable, and they can compliment a variety of body types. I place special focus on technical finesse, fit, quality andfinish of my creations.

3.In your earlier years, how did you decide that you eventually wanted to become a designer?

I grew up as an artist, and I always loved painting, sketching and creating my own designs andpatterns. The process of becoming a designer was a natural progression. I loved beautiful clothes and fashion and I took to designing and putting together my own wardrobe and I usually received a lot of appreciation for my personal style. I started designing for others on request as a hobby, and then went onto getting recognized for my designing talents at national and international platforms. This eventually led me to pursue designing as a serious profession and a passion I love.

4. How do you intend women to feelwhen wearing your labeled clothing?

I want women to feel beautiful, sexy, smart, confident and comfortable when wearing my label. My label strives to enhance the beauty of the wearer and increase their quotient of glamour and style.

5.What do you have to say to the next generation, particularly for thosehoping to follow in your footsteps? For anyone who wants to take up designing as a profession, I would advise them to be prepared for immense hardwork, focus, perseverance and a never give-up attitude. There are no shortcuts, and ones talent should be enhanced by pursuing proper technical and design courses at good fashion schools followed by apprenticeship under established designers to learn theropes and trade. But, as difficult as it sounds, Fashion is not all work and no play! All the toil will actually seem effortless and immensely enjoyable and fun if one has the passion and love for creating something new everyday.

Firmoo Sunglasses + Chance to get a free pair of sunglasses.

Hello Everyone!

Hope you are having a great weekend. Recently Firmoo.com sent me a pair of sunglasses. You saw me wearing it in my previous blog post. Check out my thoughts on Firmoo.com and the Cat eye sunglasses and of course a chance to get a free pair for yourself.

< I am wearing..

Sunglasses - Courtesy Firmoo.com [BUY HERE]
Studded Leather Jacket - Forever 21.

Today, sunglasses are one of the most important fashion accessory. Finding a pair of great sunglasses that flatter your face is just as important as finding a pair of perfect shoes. Firmoo.com understands the need of modern women. They offer classic, contemporary and fashion glasses frames to help you tackle the mundane daily chores with a fashionable twist.

Well just a few pointers to remember when you are shopping for sunglasses.

1. Understand your face shape. If your face shape is oval, most frames suit your face structure. If you have round face, then opt for wider frames with angular or rectangular styles. If you have diamond face try oval or square frames. If you have triangle shaped/ squared shaped face then opt for Cat eye sunglasses or Oval frames. Lastly, if you have oblong face opt for round or oval frames.

2. Depending on your hair style choose frames. Soft and curly hair, opt for frames with delicate shapes, rimless frames and translucent colors. You have curly hair then opt for classic small frames. Short hair then geometric shapes look good. If you flaunt a very short hair style then try on bold colors, designs and modern styles. If you have long hair try frames with work with you with your hair tied up or left loose.

Hope these tips will be useful during your next shopping spree. These tips are complied from various internet sources I read few months back. Breeze through Firmoo.com, find a pair of sunglasses which suits your needs. Use the virtual mirror to check which sunglasses suit your face shape. Now get your own pair of Firmoo Sunglassses! That's right Firmoo.com is giving away first frames free for every customer. Click on the below link to get a free pair!

Loads of love,

Polka Dots and Zebra Stripes .

Hello Everyone!

This week on Wardrobe Wednesday it's all about mixing different prints.

I am wearing

Polka dot Shirt - Commerical Street (Cost Rs.480)
Skirt - ZARA (Bought during ZARA Sale for Rs. 990)
Bag - Stilettos Diary Shop
Zebra Print Heels - Metro (Cost me Rs.700 during 50% sale,old )
Chain - Courtesy Oasap.com [BUY HERE]
Sunglasses - Courtesy Firmoo.com [BUY HERE]
ALDO Rose Gold Watch - courtesy Majorbrands.in [BUY HERE]
Rings - Stilettos Diary Shop.

This season I am seeing Animal prints make a return. From python prints, zebra prints to very faithful leopard prints. Polka dots trend is eternal. You can mix polka with stripes, polka with animal prints such as leopard print. I have tried to mix zebra prints with polka dots. I always loved mixing patterns which is not too loud.

I believe only way you can discover fashion is by breaking rules and wearing outfits which defines your personality. This outfit is so very me. I am huge fan of skirts, polka dots and animal prints. I combined all three in one! I previous did a post in which I mixed leopard prints with zebra stripes. [READ HERE]. Since I am mixing prints usually I would go for subtle accessories, but this time I added bold accessories like a zebra print collar necklace, rose gold watch, few statement rings and red handbag.

All I have to say is mix prints and patterns you like, suits your personality. Break the rules and make a statement! Do let me know if you had to mix different prints, which would you mix?
I shall wait for all your comments about what you think of the styling and your thoughts on print mixing. If you liked my look, do hype it on lookbook.nu.

Loads of love,

DIY ZARA Sequin Clutch.

Hello Everyone.

I am back with a new DIY post and this post turns out to be the 100th post on my blog (Yipeee!! :)).The ZARA Sequin clutch has been a staple style statement in the fashion blogosphere. Today you can learn how to make it home with a mere budget of Rs.150.

ITEMS REQUIRED :

1. Net Fabric Cloth. (Available in most craft stores. Cost around Rs 60.)
2. Fabric Glue.
3. Sequin Trims. (Available in most craft stores. Cost Rs. 20 for 1m of trimmings. Buy about 3m)
4. Zipper (one - Cost me Rs.10)
5. Sewing Machine. (Optional)

1. Cut the fabric cloth based on the size of the zipper. My zipper was about 11inches. Therefore my bag dimensions was about 11*8. Cut two pieces of size 11*8.
2. Now either you can glue the two pieces using fabric glue or sew the edges. I went to my tailor and got the edges stitched and also the zipper stitched. He charged me Rs.20.
3. Wait until the glue is completely dry or after the edges are stitched to unfold the clutch.
4. Measure the sequin trim to the length of the pouch and glue it down.
6. Glue down some colorful sequins and beads in a haphazard manner. Voila! You have your very own ZARA Sequin clutch in a mere budget of Rs.150.

You can choose golden trims. I opted for the colorful trims because I didn't want to make a golden sequin clutch and wanted to add my own twist to the ZARA Sequin clutch.

I am wearing :

Sequin Clucth : DIY
WATCH : ALDO Rose Gold Watch - courtesy Majorbrands.in [BUY HERE!!]
Accessories : Stilettos Diary Shop.

Let me know what you think of this DIY Post and my interpretation of the sequin ZARA Clutch. I will wait for all your comments. I learnt this from Evelina Barry's Blog and added my own twist to it.

I was looking for the perfect sheer white shirt for quite sometime. My search ended with this shirt I found at CHOIES.COM [BUY HERE!!]. You can style a sheer shirt in so many ways, jacket (like I have in this post), formal shirt for office wear, casual style with skirts and jeans for everyday wear.

Well the rain gods seem to be upset with Bangalore. Its forever gloomy, cloudy and hardly rains. The weather is killing me and adding to my laziness. I am constantly adding bright colors to my outfit to cheer myself up. Red nails is one of the perfect ways to brighten your day. It never goes out of style. I decided to wear my electric blue skull romper with sheer white shirt I picked from CHOIES.COM [BUY HERE!!]. Completed the outfit with skull accessories, studded white belt, green aviators and sky high heels. Causal outfit for everyday chores, to meet friends or to hit the movies.

The HINDU interviewed few fashion bloggers from India for an article. I was one of the fashion bloggers. Do read the article and let me know what you think. I shall wait for your comments on the styling as well as the article.

Loads of love,

Minimalism.

Hello Everyone!

It is time for Wardrobe Wednesday. This week I am focusing on Minimalist trend.

I am wearing...

Jacket - courtesy Romwe.com [BUY HERE!!]
Skirt - ZARA INDIA [Bought it during ZARA Sale for Rs.990 while the original price was Rs.2230]
T Bar Lace High Heels - Courtesy Oasap.com [BUY HERE!!]
Bag - Stilettos Diary Shop
Ring - Stilettos Diary Shop
ALDO Rose Gold Watch - courtesy Majorbrands.in [BUY HERE!!]
From past few weeks all of you have been asking where the rose gold Aldo watch [BUY HERE!!] is from, well the cat is out of the bag. It is from Majorbrands.in.

MAJOR BRANDS is a leading franchisee for premier international fashion brands. Major Brands has been the forerunner as the premier partner in India for international brands such as Mango, Aldo, Aldo Accessories, bebe,Charles& Keith, Inglot, La Senza, JustForKids, Nine West and Promod.

I just fell in love with this rose gold Aldo watch [ BUY HERE!!] instantly. An affordable substitute to Micheal Kors rose gold chronograph watch. My shopping experience with major brands has been more than pleasant. I received the watch within 3-4 days after ordering. They offer a variety of brands and convenient way to shop. Netime you want to pick up a international brand don’t forget to check out majorbrands.in

Strict contrast to the opulent pieces which have been edging their way back into the fashion world , this season it is all about minimalist clothing. I picked this jacket from ROMWE.COM [BUY HERE!!].  The simple, clean cut shapes and tailoring of the jacket makes it a very versatile piece.

The T- Bar lace high heels is one of my favorite picks from OASAP.COM [ BUY HERE!!].
This Jeffery Campbell inspired high heels adds sophistication required to complete the minimalist looks. Try going without accessory as Minimalist trend is all about clean cut, shapes and tailoring. I completed the look with Aldo sunglasses.

How to add Minimalist trend to your wardrobe?

1. Look for pencil and A-line skirts and round necked, collar-less tops and dresses.
2. Try to keep accessories as minimal as possible...even dare to go accessory-free.
3. Opt for well fitted jersey and structured dresses worn over opaque tights. Pair teamed with high heels and a classic oversized clutch for a look which oozes minimalist sophistication. Mix textures in your clothing.
4. Enhance your natural beauty with pared down makeup.Stick to monochrome colors like white and black, grey, navy and nude.
5. If you are in a daring mood, add leopard print bag or high heels.
